So, this one actually is an old lens, but I just got it about two weeks ago.

This lens comes with a lens hood.

So the first pro of this lens is the build quality. The build quality of it is so sturdy like this lens is not plasticky or something, and it’s so solid that you will feel its weight.

So, another pro of this lens has a wide aperture. So this is a constant aperture of F 3.5 from 10 millimeters to 20 millimeters.

So, you will have a large amount of light coming in, and also, you’ll have a shallow depth of field, especially when you’re vlogging.

It’s good enough for vlogging, and also that constant 3.5 aperture when you’re changing your focal lengths, like if you’re assuming it helps a lot.

So it doesn’t change the exposure of the footage or composition that you’re making, and obviously, the best part of this lens is the ultra-wide-angle.

So this lens is actually a zoom lens, so it zooms from 20 millimeters, all the way down to 10 millimeters.

Canon 17-55mm F2.8: (Best Dslr lens for vlogging)

This lens has become my go-to lens for photography and vlogging videography.

It’s been the lens that has been on my camera pretty much constantly and what I’ve used for almost everything for the past 6 months now.

This is a crop sensor lens, so this isn’t going to work on a full-frame body.

Another thing you might notice is the focal length is very similar to a lot of kit lenses.

If you buy a crop sensor camera, this lens has a constant aperture of 2.8.

That means, all the way through the zoom range, you can have the aperture open up to 2.8. If you want to open it all the way and that’s really useful.

It’s a much more professional feeling and professional quality lens.

You can get at any part of the focal range on this lens. You can get a much more shallow depth of field.

You’re getting a whole lot more light in, especially at the long end of the lens.

It’s just giving you a lot more options to work with.

This lens does have image stabilization, which means for photos, it will help you have your subject sharper and less blurry when you maybe have to bring down the shutter speed a little bit slower.

It’s also useful in the video to take out a lot of those little micro jitters.

So, I’ve been using this as my main lens. It’s been the lens that’s been on my camera for the past 6months.

Because I’ve been using it for vlogging, I’ve been using it for videos, and  I’ve been using it for still photography.

I’ve really been using it for everything.

Then, the focal length range is a very useful range, pretty close to the equivalent of a 24 to 70-millimeter lens, except it’s actually slightly better on the telephoto.

And it goes to 55, which on a full-frame equivalent would be closer to 90 on the wide end.

It goes to 17, which on full-frame equivalent would be like 27 point something, so not quite as wide as your 24 to 74 frame zoom lens, but pretty close, and you have more reach on the telephoto end.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about with full-frame equivalents, don’t worry about it. A few things I’ll point out with this for vlogging and video.

The autofocus on this is pretty loud. So, when you have the mic on the camera directly above the lens, you sometimes pick up a little bit of autofocus noise.

Most of the time, for me, It’s not bad enough to worry about thinking that I need to switch lenses or anything like that. It’s been fine.

I wouldn’t call it distractingly loud it is there. If you look for it, you can hear it. Sometimes in quiet moments, you can hear it, but for the most part, for me, for my purposes, it’s fine.

Another thing about this lens is it’s pretty big and pretty heavy.

So if your vlogging setup is focused more on being small, compact, Portable, this probably is not the lens for you.

For me, that hasn’t really been the case since I’ve gotten into vlogging and trying to build the right vlogging setup for me.

Obviously, I’ve been much more focused on getting the best image quality that I can out of my equipment on my budget.

Also, for Vlogging, it only goes to 17 on the wide end, which is just a little bit wider than your kit lens, for instance, if you’ve ever logged with a kit lens.

For me, I’ve never been a fan of the super overly wide vlogging angle; it certainly makes it easier because you have to worry less about whether you’re actually in the frame.

But it also distorts the face a lot and everything else in the frame a lot, and I have a flip-out screen so I can see if I’m in the frame or not.

So, I’m not super worried about that as much, and I don’t like the aesthetic of the super-like fish angle wide type of vlogging.

Now for photography, this is a beast of a lens.

The zoom range that you have with this is really almost everything that you need for most situations.

That’s why it’s been sitting on my camera constantly these last 6 months.

2.8 aperture is really wide open for a zoom lens, especially a zoom lens that has this kind of range, which makes it really nice for images.

This already has a nice shallow depth of field; it depends on what you’re shooting what kind of feel you want to get.

I’ve been pleased with the 2.8 aperture on this.

So, who is this lens for? What are its strengths? What are its weaknesses?

So, again, very versatile lens; as far as who’s it for, it’s probably for you if you’re using a cropped censored canon body.

Event photographers, wedding photographers, and most photographers will be able to utilize this focal length.

With the 2.8 aperture on a zoom lens, this range of focal length is really the best.

The focal length, the zoom range, and that wide aperture of 2.8 can get nice blurry backgrounds and also does fairly well in low light because of having that wide aperture.

Its weaknesses, it’s a little slow to focus and also loud to focus for photography in most instances; it’s not a problem.

Also, if you’re doing fast-moving sports or something, the autofocus speed might not be the best.

But for most situations with photography portraits, events, that kind of thing landscape certainly it’s fast enough.

What I see is, it’s not the widest. For me, it’s wide enough, and it is heavy.

It does have distortion; for most of the zoom lens, there’s some distortion at varying levels throughout, almost all of the zoom range of this lens.

It’s easily fixable in Lightroom. You click the one button, lens correction; it’s gone.

For this level of quality of the lens and this zoom range that price, that’s an excellent deal.

This is a lens that you’re getting to step up, the quality step up what you’re able to do with photography, videography, etc.

When you want to step up to a better lens, that’s where you can look at something like this.

I really have been enjoying this lens.

A great name for a great price, It’s purely down to budget.

Let’s start with the cons; there are only two really I could find. As I said, these are really down to what your style of shooting is what your needs are.

There’s no image stabilization on this.

If you’re like me and you shoot on the Canon EOSR, that embodies image stabilization, and it depends on what you’re shooting.

If you’re running around, Vlogging shooting B roll simultaneously, there may be an image stabilization is what you need.

Personally, yes, it would come in handy to have that.

But at the same time, if anything will challenge me to better a handheld shooting, I quite like that it’s really not a con.

The other tiny drawback is this is only a bit.

Those shooting in low light may have a little bit of a struggle, and if you want a more shallow depth of field, then that’s something to consider before buying this lens.

First pros, such a lightweight little lens is great; it will fit poorly in your back pocket, big pockets.

I’m personally going to be using this as a workhorse lens.

This brings me to pro number two. It is a wide-angle lens with a nice amount of zoom; it comes in great vlogging doing handheld stuff.

I do quite a lot of great photography styles. So I think that for me, this is a great lens, nice and easy.

It’s got all the photos you expect to have that from a Canon lens.

So I recently got asked by a close friend of mine, I just got a Canon 90 D, and I want to start a YouTube channel and make vlog style videos; and what lens do you recommend I buy?

So, there are definitely some really awesome lenses out there for crop sensor canons.

But one lens I would totally recommend if you’re interested in doing Vlogging and video style work is the Canon 10 to 18 F 4.5 to 5.6 is STM lens. That’s a bit of a mouthful.

If you’re buying a video and Youtube vlogging camera, if vlogging and video shooting is your main aim, what lens should you pair with your entry-level camera?

For me, it’s a no-brainer this Canon 10-18 F4.5-5.6; in my opinion, it’s tailor-made for Vlogging and YouTubers.

So, let’s find out why?

So this review does come from my real-world use of using this literally to kickstart our Youtube channel and shoot vlogs and better photography.

Now, of course, the main selling point here is that the ultra-wide focal length of 10 to 18 millimeters does make it such an excellent lens.

This makes it tailor-made for capturing dramatic landscapes like sweeping city shots, architecture, pretty much anything where you want to show the viewer as much as possible.

So, from the point of view of a vlogger, you’re able to fit one person, two people, even like he could literally feel like a group of people in a shot, and still show so much of the environment around you.

Another reason this lens is so well catered for video shooters is that it comes with four stops of image stabilization.

So, on a wide-angle lens, that is a really nice luxury as it really does help you when you’re taking those like cinematic sweeping shots or, say, if you’re vlogging and you’re climbing up a mountain.

You’re trying to film yourself at the same time we’re just walking and talking.

When I see people vlogging, talking to themselves, they’re walking down the road, and it’s just like shaking and wobbling.

But if you’re using this lens with that image stabilization turned on.

They’re not going to have this problem; it performs pretty well.

So for those of you with shaky hands, the IRS is definitely going to help you get more reliable and steady shots without having to put the camera on a tripod or a gimbal.

That is really going to help reduce camera shake when you’re snapping like photos and handheld as well.

Another awesome feature of this lens is just how quiet the actual focusing motor is, so the STM motor focuses really smoothly, very silently.

This is perfect because not going to ruin your audio.

So, another Thumbs up for those looking at vlogging and filming with this lens.

Focusing is super fast, super accurate, very reliable autofocus, especially when you’re shooting people.

For example, this lens coupled with any of these modern crop sensor Canon cameras with that dual pixel AF system locks focuses fantastically well.

So, I know I can rely on this lens in terms of focusing. Of course, you know it does help that this is ultra-wide and that maximum aperture is only f 4.5, so everything will focus.

Anyway, I am tracking my face, for the most part, keeping me in focus, super reliable massive thumbs up.

Another great thing about this lens is its lightweight; this is definitely a super portable lens, weighing only 240 grams.

It’s definitely a plus, especially if you’re shooting video, you’re traveling, and you’re vlogging.

Anything that’s going to save weight and not be heavy will make the whole process of filming videos so much more pleasant for you.

It’s just super nice to use.

So, image quality-wise, this is a really excellent performer, and I’ve been super impressed with how sharp this lens is throughout the focal range.

So when you’re in a well-lit environment, images are really quite crisp and vibrant, and because it’s ultra-wide, it’s not difficult to get everything nicely in focus.

And I was always impressed at how well this lens performed for the price in terms of flaring and ghosting and just how little distortion there is considering that.

So, this lens is awesome and a big upgrade over the kit lens regarding overall optical performance.

So, far this is pretty much sounding like a pretty great lens, which it is, but there are a few things that you need to be aware of before you go out and buy this.

So the biggest thing for me is, this is not a lens for bokeh and blurry backgrounds.

It’s ultra-wide at that maximum aperture; f 4.5 isn’t really designed for that sort of thing.

It’s also an EFS mount lens, so it will not work on any full-frame Canon camera.

So, it will work with all of the canon’s APS-C range, which is not really an issue for most people buying in this price range.

It’s definitely worth mentioning because if you decide to upgrade later on to a Canon 60 mark 2 or a 5D Mark 4, whatever the latest full-frame canon will be in the future.

You’re not going to be able to use this lens with any of those full-frame cameras.

The biggest problem with this lens is that it is quite noisy in low light conditions. The aperture, you know, doesn’t open up very wide.

So, for me, that’s one of the biggest drawbacks about this lens, but you know most people are trying to shoot in optical lighting conditions anyway.

In terms of what you’re getting for your money, the performance is the autofocus the image quality. You literally have this perfect tailor-made vlogging lens.

That comes neatly nicely packaged in this lightweight, compact form.

So, as I said, this lens’s been around the world back with us, and there was a reason why it was on camera, as 90% of the time because I knew I could rely on it.

If you’re looking at a crop sensor Canon DSLR APSC, or maybe you already own one, and you’re looking at getting a lens for video vlogging.

In my opinion, this is it; you’re going to love this lens.

Do you want a wide-angle blurry background lens?

I’ve been dreaming about this, it is a game-changer for vlogging, and I’m going to dive deep and tell you why.

This lens is unique, and it really is very exciting.

It’s priced at about $450, and it weighs 14.29 ounces which aren’t tiny, like a little pancake and mount lens, but it isn’t huge by any means either.

The thing that makes most sigma lenses special is the huge aperture, in this case, a 1.4.

Now there are two main reasons that a 1.4 aperture is so desirable and so delicious.

First is the shallow depth of field; this means that the area of the focus area will be much smaller than if the aperture were set at a higher number.

You will see that only a small part of the image is focused when set at the 1.4 aperture; it’s crazy.

The shallow depth of field allows you to rack focus between background and foreground and creatively highlight one or the other.

You can also capture some gorgeous bokeh; who doesn’t love gorgeous bokeh; you can also create a blurry background.

That should really help your subjects stand out from the background. It becomes less important what the background is because if it looks like a mess, you can blur it out.

This is the cinematic look that will help your footage look far less amateur and much more professional.

One small note is that you will need a neutral density filter on this lens if you actually want to shoot outdoors in bright lighting at the 1.4 aperture.

The second reason you need that 1.4 aperture is that it will save your footage in low-light conditions.

And by low light, I don’t mean creeping around the woods at night.

Sometimes it’s just regular household lighting that isn’t quite bright enough for your lens because most household lighting isn’t.

This low-light stuff has become so important to me with a kit in the house because I want to film her constantly, but I have to work within the household lighting.

This also very much applies to travel vlogging like we’re talking interiors of hotels, public transportation inside a restaurant, just being out in the evening wanting to film things going on around you.

It’s one thing if you’re in Paris with streetlights all around you at night, but it’s quite another if you’re in Southeast Asia with less electricity overall to light the streets after sunset or if you’re camping.

So the other thing about this lens that makes it so unique and perfect for vlogging is the wide 16-millimeter focal length.

So if you’re vlogging on a crop sensor camera, you’re going to need a focal length of at least 18 millimeters to fit yourself in the shot at arm’s length using a gorilla pod or some other handgrip will give you a little bit of extra length.

But forcing the camera as far away from you as possible really isn’t fun for your arm, and when your arm isn’t happy.

While you’re vlogging, it’s tough to concentrate on what you’re saying.

So the 16 millimeters will give you plenty of room in the shot, and it’s going to give you that slightly more pro look that a wide-angle lens delivers right before it becomes a fisheye.

It’s the sweet spot, and the thing about this lens is that before its release, there really was nothing else like it on the market for vloggers.

I’d also say that if you’re a vlogger, you’re going to likely tell your story in part using that classic vlogging shot that we talked about, which is why you want the 16 mils.

Hopefully, you’re also shooting the environments and close-ups and some other just creative additions for your vlog.

I’ve been dreaming of these exact specs on a lens for a very long time.
